WHAT ARE THEY?
Dermal fillers are a versatile injectable treatment typically used to target deeper lines or to increase volumisation. Volumisation may be used to restore volume loss, which typically occurs with aging; to symmetrise facial asymmetry; or enhance facial contouring and aesthetic appearance.
HOW DO THEY WORK?
Derma fillers typically consist of hyaluronic acid, which acts like the innate hyaluronic acid within our tissues. They cause the ingress and retention of fluid, which results in more plump, hydrated tissue. Depending on the type of filler used, they may also directly stimulate collagen production, which further improves the skin quality.
WHAT ARE THEY USED FOR?
Softening deeper rhytids (wrinkles) or improving contouring of the face can deliver a more youthful and refreshed appearance, when done well. Fillers may be used to restore volume loss, symmetrise facial asymmetry, or enhance facial contours. Examples include the softening of nasolabial lines, volumising the cheek, or enhancing/restoring lip volume. The key with fillers is to not overdo them, and instead use subtle enhancements to achieve a natural result.
ARE THEY SAFE?
Fillers, as with any medical treatment, have potential side effects. Serious side effects are rare, but can be significant. Some swelling, redness or bruising may be present following treatment. Typically, this settles within a few days. Fillers typically used by Miss Shetha Naji are vegan friendly.
WHAT HAPPENS ON THE DAY?
You will meet our plastic surgery consultant, Miss Shetha Naji, for a face-to-face consultation. You will have a full medical and aesthetic consultation detailing your desires and concerns, and following a thorough and systematic assessment, a treatment plan will be devised. This will include a detailed explanation of the procedure itself, associated risks and aftercare. There is no obligation to undertake any treatment.
If you wish to proceed, the treatment will typically last no longer than 30 minutes. Local anaesthetic (topical/injected) may be used prior to the treatment, if desired.
Detailed aftercare advice is given following the procedure. Downtime is minimal, but it is advisable to avoid hot or strenuous activities for 24-48 hours following the procedure.
We do advise against having any aesthetic treatments immediately prior to any formal or significant event.
A follow up appointment in person is not typically required following the injection of fillers, as the results are immediate. But, if desired, a follow up consultation may be held. We advise a follow up review at 6-12 months to reassess and plan further treatments to maintain your result.

HOW LONG WITH RESULTS LAST?
Depending on the filler used and location of the filler, results may last 12-18 months.
