POLYNUCLEOTIDES  (SKIN & HAIR)

WHAT ARE THEY?
Polynucleotides are the building blocks of DNA and RNA. Derived from salmon trout gonads, polynucleotides are used as a regenerative medical treatment, injected into/under the skin to improve skin quality, complexion and appearance.

WHAT ARE THEY USED FOR?
Polynucleotides are an incredible example of regenerative medicine and, in fact, can be a preventative aging treatment. They may be used to improve the quality of skin in both younger and more mature patients. They can improve thin, crepey, pigmented or aged skin anywhere on the body, while improving skin plumpness and turgor.

In addition to evening pigmentation of the skin, they are effective in the treatment of scarring, including acne scarring and striae, due to their promotion of cell turnover, accelerated wound healing and collagen stimulation.

Most effective around the eyes, polynucleotides increase volume by thickening the skin itself, enhancing skin radiance and reducing fine lines and wrinkles.

Polynucleotides can be used with and without non-crossed linked hyaluronic acid to further increase skin hydration and plumpness, depending on the treatment area and skin needs.

Polynucleotides can also be used to treat thinning hair by stimulating follicles, improving the scalp microcirculation. They also have anti-inflammatory properties, which result in thicker, stronger and more resilient hair growth.

For maturing women, vulvo-vaginal tissues also suffer from the aging process, where collagen and elastin levels decline. This can lead to loss of tone and elasticity, dryness, itch and discomfort.

Polynucleotides, just like in cutaneous skin, stimulate fibroblasts when injected into intimate areas to yield similar results in terms of improved tissue elasticity, tone and quality, which leads to the reduction of symptoms while offering a non-hormonal, minimally-invasive treatment option. Clinical evidence has shown polynucleotides are thus able to improve sexual satisfaction.

This truly regenerative medical treatment is ideal for improving the quality of your skin and tissues and can be used alongside most treatments to enhance the overall outcome.

HOW DO THEY WORK?
Polynucleotides transform your skin quality, tone and firmness from within. They stimulate fibroblasts, leading to increased collagen and elastic production, accelerated wound healing and regeneration, and reduced inflammation. The result is intense hydration, restored elasticity, and plumper, healthier skin. In turn, this smooths fine lines, reviving dull, tired skin and improving pigmentation. With its effect on collagen remodelling, polynucleotides can improve scar quality and appearance.

ARE THEY SAFE?
Polynucleotides have been used for more than 30 years and have a good safety profile. The polynucleotides used by Miss Shetha Naji are derived from rainbow salmon trout in Italy. The purification process is such that even patients with fish allergies are able to use these products.

As with any medical treatment, there are potential side effects, but these are rare. Most side effects are related to the administration method, i.e. the injection, which can cause bleeding, pain, bruising or swelling. However, these effects are temporary and typically resolve within a few days. Various administration methods are used for different areas and will be discussed with you prior to any treatment performed.

WHAT HAPPENS ON THE DAY?
You will meet our plastic surgery consultant, Miss Shetha Naji, for a face-to-face consultation. You will have a full medical and aesthetic consultation detailing your desires and concerns, and following a thorough and systematic assessment, a treatment plan will be devised. This will include a detailed explanation of the procedure itself, associated risks and aftercare. There is no obligation to undertake any treatment.

If you wish to proceed, the treatment will typically last no longer than 30 minutes. Local anaesthetic (topical/injected) is used prior to the treatment to minimise discomfort.

Some swelling, redness and bumps may be visible following the treatment. Depending on the administration method, this may typically take 2-5 days to settle. Specific post-procedure advice depends on the area treated, but downtime is minimal.

We do advise against having any aesthetic treatments immediately prior to any formal or significant event.

A follow up appointment in person is not typically required following the injection of polynucleotides, but if desired, a follow up consultation may be held.

WHEN WILL I SEE RESULTS?
Ideally, polynucleotides are used as a course of treatments as they effect the new growing skin cells that emerge during the skin cycle. The length of the skin cycle increases as we age and results vary. Typically, we advise that you will not see results of the treatment for a minimum of six weeks.

HOW LONG DO RESULTS LAST?
Everyone is unique, and the length of time for which the results of a polynucleotides lasts also depends on which area of the body is treated. For hair, the results can last up to two months, while for skin and intimate areas the results may last up to six months or longer.

POLYNUCLEOTIDES TREATMENTS

POLYNUCLEOTIDES FOR SKIN

Polynucleotide treatments offer a range of skin benefits, including enhanced skin elasticity, reduced fine lines and wrinkles, improved hydration, and increased skin firmness. These treatments work by stimulating collagen and elastin production, promoting tissue repair, and providing antioxidant protection.

For skin uses, an initial course of 2-4 treatments, 2-4 weeks apart, is recommended with maintenance thereafter every six months for most indications. No specific aftercare is required, but as with any procedure, it is advisable not to touch the area for approximately 12 hours.

POLYNUCLEOTIDES FOR HAIR

Polynucleotide treatments for hair involve injecting a solution containing polynucleotides directly into the scalp to promote hair growth and improve scalp health. It works by stimulating cell regeneration, enhancing blood circulation, and reducing inflammation in the scalp, which can improve the health and quality of hair.

Typically, four treatments, 1-2 weeks apart, are advised. Following this, one treatment every three weeks for a further four sessions is recommended. Thereafter, maintenance every 1-2 months is also recommended. It is advisable to avoid washing your hair for 12 hours following the procedure.

POLYNUCLEOTIDES FOR FEMALE INTIMATE AREAS

Polynucleotide treatments can offer benefits for female intimate areas by stimulating collagen production, improving hydration, and enhancing overall tissue health. They can help reduce symptoms like vaginal dryness, improve elasticity, and promote a more rejuvenating effect in the vulvovaginal region.

Typically, 5-6 treatments are recommended, with the time between treatments determined by the patient’s symptoms. Following the initial course of treatment, maintenance every 2-6 months is recommended. It is advisable to avoid sexual intercourse or activities that can cause rubbing or pressure to the area for 72 hours.
